Energy of the future

Cosmism believe that Super Intelligent Life will required a radical new ways of producing, consuming and conservation of energy. Here we will not review primitive ways of making energy from renewable and not renewable sources because it would never enough to upgrade humanity to even first type of civilization on the Kardashev scale. The potential sources of distant future energy are:

  • controlled nuclear fusion

  • space based solar power

  • plasma withdraw from the Sun,

  • antimatter annihilation

  • exotic matter

For more than 60 years, scientists have dreamed of a clean, inexhaustible energy source in the form of nuclear fusion. And they’re still dreaming.

But thanks to the efforts of the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, experts hope that might soon change. Last year, after 1.1 million construction hours, the institute completed the world’s largest nuclear fusion machine of its kind, called a stellarator. read more

Generally, scientists prefer to avoid the concept of perpetual motion. The idea of a machine that could produce movement that goes on forever, and using that movement to generate an endless stream of energy, is usually considered more science fiction than science. But recently, physicist Pavel Ivanov has investigated previous speculation that an exotic fluid with unusual properties could cause energy to flow continuously between different regions of space, resulting in a runaway transfer of energy. If an advanced civilization were able to construct a device to capture this energy, it might finally possess its own "perpetuum mobile" -- or perpetual motion. read more
